From: http://www.laidlawfdn.org/cms/page1496.cfm This is What We Call Home: Youth speak up about pollution on Fort William First Nation The Anishinabek of the Gitchi Gami (AGG) is an emerging grassroots, youth driven organization, that facilitates community engagement, empowers young people and catalyzes action. The first major project of the Anishinabek of the Gitchi Gami, a citizen-based environmental advocacy group on Fort William First Nation, adjacent to Thunder Bay, is a youth-led exploration of environmental health issues on their reserve. Facilitated by Damien Lee and Tim Solomon, a group of young people set out to identify, photograph and map their community environmental concerns including illegal dumpsites, hazardous waste and the burning of garbage. Since the initial production of an environmental contaminants map, and photo exhibit entitled This is What We Call Home, the group has hosted a community open house, presented their recommendations to the Fort William First Nation Chief and Council and continue to voice their concerns and passion broadly.
